To ensure an exceptional guest experience, Hotel Lautner upholds strict rental policies.
We ask that you review these carefully — including our cancellation policy — before confirming your stay. By booking, you agree to the terms outlined in our Vacation Rental Agreement. All reservations are subject to these policies without exception.
Policies
We are a hybrid between boutique hotel and vacation rental property
We are a self-catering property with no food or beverage program
We are not open to the public and do not have a restaurant or bar on-site
We do not have an on-site office or staff
We have a manager that works remotely from 8:00am-10:00pm
We have very strict rental policies that must be agreed to at time of booking
We have a strict cancellation policy
We have a two night stay policy
We are adult only
We allow up to two small dogs or one large dog per rental unit
We have pet policies that must be agreed to at time of booking
We require a photo ID at time of booking
We allow up to 2 adults per rental unit
We offer self guided check in and check out procedure
We expect our renters to leave the rental units in the same condition as found at check in
We take a $250 refundable damage deposit at time of booking.
Check In Time is from 4:00pm-10:00pm
After 10:00pm the manager is off duty.

Check Out time is 11:00pm
After11:00pm renters will incur a $50 fee for each additional 30 minutes
We are offering the chance of a lifetime to sleep in an actual John Lautner residence.
We expect our renters to be respectful of their rental unit and its furnishings & fixtures and to the other occupants during their stay.
We are not a full-service hotel instead we are a self-catering property.
We do not offer a food & beverage program.
There is no onsite check-in office or staff to assist you during your stay. there is a rental manager to assist you by phone.

At the time of booking renters are accepting the terms of our vacation rental agreement. Please review before booking as you will be bound by our terms and conditions once you have booked. no exceptions.
Proof of ID is required and must be provided by email or text before renter's arrival. No access to The Lautner without proof of id in advance.
Self-guided check-in and check-out instructions will be emailed just minutes before the 4:00pm check-in time the day of your arrival.
A strict 2-night minimum stay

Up to two visitors are allowed between 10am-10pm

No check in's after 10:00pm as the rental manager is off-duty

Stay Policies:
Renters are expected to leave the rental unit in the same condition as it was found at the time of check-in.
Renters are expected to wash & dry dishes and
Place trash securely fastened outside the rental unit door
for collection before departing.
Renters are responsible for any damage caused to the rental unit property and the grounds. please report damages before departure.
Renters are expected to keep the property secured at all times for the safety and privacy of every occupant.
Communal plunge pool is open during the spring and fall months. It is closed during winter months and in inclement weather.
A one time fee of $50.00 will be applied to your reservation per stay. The fee is used for the cleaning of all fabric and carpet after your departure to ensure the comfort of future guests occupying the unit.
No more than 2 dogs per unit are allowed at any one time.
Sorry no cats or other animals allowed.
Dogs each must be no more than 25 lbs in weight.
When in public areas, pets must be kept on a leash or in a carrier.
Dogs must NOT be left unattended in the unit or on the private patio.
Dogs must be taken outside The Lautner walls to do their "business" and owners must collect waste in a poop bag and dispose of the bag in an outside trash receptacle on The Lautner grounds.
Do not take poop bag inside unit and place in kitchen trash receptacle.
Dogs must be house trained and clean.
An additional $250.00 cleaning fee will be charged if the dog(s) create an excessive mess or have an accident.
Noise must be kept to a minimum. Dogs barking can disturb other guests.
Guests are responsible for all property damages and/or personal injuries resulting from the pets.
Pet owner will be responsible for the repair and/or replacement of any items stained or damaged by their pets.
By paying the pet fee you agree to these terms and to release, defend and indemnify the Hotel Lautner, from any and all claims or damages related to your pet or pets stay at the hotel, included any claims by third-parties.

Hotel Lautner is a "Self Catering" hybrid boutique hotel and vacation rental property which means guests are responsible for their own food and beverage during their stay. Each of our four luxury units has a kitchenette equipped with the following items:

The plunge pool is a communal pool shared by all four Lautner Living Units. It is not a hot tub nor is it a mineral spring pool.
It is large enough to accommodate up to 8 adults which is the maximum number of guests allowed to stay on site at any given time.
The plunge pool is open during the spring and fall seasons.
The plunge pool is closed during the winter season.
ARRANGEMENTS CAN BE MADE IN ADVANCE TO HEAT THE POOL FOR ADDITIONAL FEES DURING A BUYOUT. PLEASE INQUIRE.
Frequently asked questions
Hotel Lautner is a hybrid between Boutique Hotel and an upscale Vacation Rental Property. We are a self check in and self catering property but we spoil you with all of the amenities of a boutique hotel.
No there is no office or staff on site to assist you. The manager is available from 9am-6pm and after hours in case of emergency.
No you may not. Hotel Lautner is closed to the non-booking public. We open our doors to the public twice a year in February and October for www.modernismweek.com
No there is not. Hotel Lautner is a Self Catering property where guests provide their own food and beverage during their stay.
We are an adult only property for ages 25+. Exceptions are made on a case by case basis. Please inquire.
2 adults max on 1 queen size bed. Hotel Lautner does not offer rollaway beds, does not allow sleeping on sofas and no overnight guests are allowed.
Hote Lautner has a communal plunge pool. It is not a pool that you can swim in and it is not a hot tub. It is a small pool that you can soak in. At any given time there are only 8 adults staying so there is never a crowd at the plunge pool.
No. At time of booking you will be agreeing to the terms of our rental agreement policies. Be sure to read our policies as no exceptions will be made to them once you have booked and your payment has been charged in full.
Yes. You must submit a photo of your drivers license or passport at time of booking. Just as you would provide your ID upon checking into a hotel or renting a car.
Yes. If you damage our property during your stay or take any of our property with you, whether intentional or by accident, you will be held accountable. This includes stains to our linen, towels or robes. With only 4 rental units it is extremely easy for the manager and cleaning service to be sure of damage or missing items. Charges are not disputable and will be applied to your credit card on file.
Yes. You can bring up to 2 small dogs with your during your stay for a $50 fee. Please see our pet policy.
No we are located on the outskirts of Desert Hot Springs. It is a 15 minute drive to downtown Palm Springs and a 30 minute drive to Joshua Tree.
